Club Day Insider

Every year, without fail, students raid the quad at the first ring of the lunch bell in anticipation of Club Day. A diverse range of clubs, from Math League to Soup Club, fill the lawn as students discover and plan the activities and extracurriculars they will partake in throughout the rest of the school year. With close to eighty clubs at La Jolla High School, you’re guaranteed to find one just right for you.

LJHS All Girls STEM Society

All Girls Stem Society is a branch of the non-profit All Girls STEM Society. Their mission is to “ameliorate the underrepresentation of women in STEM fields and work hard to inspire young girls in grades 3-8 to pursue their interests in STEM fields through various free events and workshops.” The club is led by co-presidents and sophomores Anabel Weinstein and Siena Lin. The club meets every other Thursday in room 510.

LJHS Academic League

Academic League is one of the longest-running LJHS clubs. According to the LJHS Academic League website, “Academic League is a San Diego County-wide competition. In Academic Leauge, teams from different regions play each other, the team of which with the best record plays in the division, then county playoffs to decide the AL champion. Questions cover a wide range of subjects, including those of many classes the average high school student will take.” Meetings are every Thursday at lunch in room 802.

LJHS Environmental Action

Junior and co-president Emma Weibel is passionate about environmental advocacy and has organized club events such as a homecoming dress exchange, Oil Spill protests, and school-wide walkouts. You can find out more about the club here. The club meets every Friday in room 801 during lunch.

Rock Climbing Club

Run by seniors Jaesu Bhak and Thomas Jablecki, the rock climbing club meets on Wednesdays in Mrs. Eaton’s classroom. It has at least 17 members and will mainly climb in a Mesa Rim climbing center, but they hope to go to El Cajon or Joshua Tree if possible. There will possibly be weekly meetings in the climbing gym.

Other clubs include LJHS Creative Writing Club, LJHS Student Support Students, LJHS Amnesty International, and more. The best way to find new exciting clubs to join is through ASB’s website or social media, as most clubs advertise through Instagram.
