Prom at La Jolla High was held at the San Diego Air and Space Museum in Balboa Park! It took place on April 18 from 7:00 pm-10:00 pm, fitting perfectly with its “Air and Space” theme. The venue was a unique experience, given that students had access to the entire museum throughout the night. For those who preferred not to dance, this created an opportunity to explore the museum. Mrs. Wira, a Latin teacher, shared, “I loved that the students who did not want to dance could walk around the museum. The atmosphere was fun, and I enjoyed it very much.”
In addition to the setting, there was a wide variety of food available, including sugar and chocolate chip cookies, ice cream, Mediterranean food, chips and salsa, vegan mozzarella and tomato skewers, and pretzel bites. Meanwhile, activities like airplane flight simulators added to the experience; since many people were going at the same time, it created long lines.
On the dance floor, people shifted on and off throughout the night depending on the DJ’s song choices, sometimes dropping from around seventy to twenty people. While many students enjoyed the music, others felt there was room for improvement. Senior Rex Mehren shared, “ The venue was cool, but I wish there were a slow dancing section.” Additionally, the enclosed atrium amplified the volume, making the music feel especially loud at times.
The unique venue, plentiful food, and lively atmosphere made the night a memorable experience for some students.
