The popular TV show Euphoria premiered its third season on HBO on April 12, 2026. This season has become popular on social media due to its intense, controversial style, which has inspired many different opinions and discussions on the internet. The teen drama series follows the main character, Rue, played by Zendaya, through high school, dealing with modern teenage drama, addiction, and identity issues. Created by a former addict, Director Sam Levinson expresses in the show how teenagers navigate through and often fail to cope with overwhelming pressure, trauma, and toxic relationships. The new season of Euphoria features a major shift in the storyline, taking the characters a few years into the future as they move beyond high school into their adult lives.
The new season has been getting a lot of criticism. Freshman, Sydney Valenzuela says, “The new season of Euphoria is majorly different from the first two; it feels messier, and the overall vibe of the season is a bit unsettling”. Compared to the last two seasons, the new season has a more Western aesthetic and is described as both more mature and polarizing. Many reviews online complain about the shift in the soundtrack: due to Labrinth leaving the show, composer Hans Zimmer has taken over, with a more orchestral, Western-inspired sound. Additionally, the director of Euphoria is facing numerous controversies. Junior, Sofia Anderson says, “This season was visually very interesting but also a little alarming. The director’s files definitely need to be checked. My favorite character so far is Angel, but I predict that she is going to die in the next episode because she may have been killed or trafficked”. Critics are saying that the women this season, especially Sydney Sweeney’s character, Cassie, are excessively sexualized for shock value with no real narrative purpose. Overall, the new season of Euphoria presents a much more mature, intense version of the story, with significant stylistic differences from previous seasons.
