American figure skater Alysa Liu made history after winning the women’s figure skating gold medal in this year’s Winter Olympics. Her victory on the ice was memorable because she is the first American woman to win an individual figure skating gold medal at the Olympics in 24 years. Liu’s artistic performance impressed countless fans around the globe, from her impressive axels to her joyful spirit as she skated. Her performance was one of a kind, and also excited many students at our school. Sophomore, Alisa Franklin mentioned, “I was watching the Olympics live, and when she won, I was so excited.” Sophomore Zakiya Genovese commented, “It was cool to watch her win and see her do spins on the ice.” Students also shared their thoughts on what helped Liu achieve such an incredible achievement. Many people say it’s her calm composure and confidence that are the true keys to her success during the competition. Alisa Franklin agreed with this, saying, “She really has a carefree attitude and wasn’t letting the competition give her any anxious thoughts,” also adding that “she goes with the flow, which she shows on the ice.” Whereas Zakiya said, “She has a lot of perseverance, and she truly tries her hardest.” In the end, Alysa Liu’s Olympic victory did more than just bring home a gold medal for the United States. Her outstanding qualities, such as perseverance and a passion for her sport, will continue to inspire young people to venture towards their dreams.
