The anticipation of Super Bowl LX is exciting for West Coast football fans. The NFC West is sporting 3 teams with the potential to make it all the way to February 8th at Levi’s Stadium. Levi’s Stadium is located in Santa Clara, in the Bay Area, which is home to one of the long-shot wild-card teams: the San Francisco 49ers. Here on campus, one Niner fan is hopeful. Sophomore Mallory McNeill says, “The NFL is super interesting this year. I am definitely excited for the results. Go 49ers!” The 49ers earned their initial spot in the playoffs by defeating the reigning football champs, the Philadelphia Eagles, with a decisive win of 23-19. The 49ers then went on to play the Seattle Seahawks on January 17th, where they lost to the Seahawks with a score of 41-6. This loss officially eliminated the 49ers from the playoffs. The Seahawks are among current Super Bowl fan favorites, along with the Buffalo Bills, the LA Rams, and the Denver Broncos, all with favorable odds to win the championship. The complete playoff picture includes the Houston Texans, the New England Patriots, and the Chicago Bears. Not all fans are so thrilled with the outcomes. “It’s been an interesting few weeks. I’m personally not happy, since I was rooting for the Steelers, and they lost. I don’t think they played very well this season,” says freshman Ty Totorice, who plays varsity football. Some young talents to watch in the upcoming playoffs are quarterbacks Drake Maye of the Patriots, Caleb Williams of the Bears, and Bo Nix of the Denver Broncos. The question is if these rising stars can outplay the league veterans like Matthew Stafford on the Rams or the Bills’ Josh Allen? Other standout players to watch include Puka Nacua and Davante Adams, both wide receivers for the Rams. Outstanding coaching is key to playoff wins, and this year’s lineup includes new coaches like Ben Johnson, in his first year as the Bears’ head coach. He has an offensive mind and designs high-impact plays. The Patriots’ coach, Mike Vrabel, is credited with the big turnaround for the New England Patriots, while veteran Kyle Shanahan, son of the storied coach Mike Shanahan, has managed to keep his Niners going strong even with significant player injuries and set-backs.
