The California State University, Fullerton (CSF) men’s basketball team recently faced their rival team University of California San Diego (UCSD), on January 8 in San Diego. The game was hosted by the UCSD Tritons at the LionTree Arena in La Jolla, and the Titans won 88-71.
The Titans had a rocky start against UCSD. Only 8 minutes into the game, they were down by 10 points, but CSF managed to catch up by taking advantage of UCSD’s mistakes. The Tritons caused ten turnovers in the first half, while the Titans only had two. Using these mistakes, the Titans scored 9 points off their turnovers, giving them a 35-32 lead by the end of the first half.
In the second half, the Titans came out aggressively, building a 20-point lead with only 6 minutes left. CSF increased their shooting percentage to 70 percent, which helped them defeat the Tritons 88-71.
Freshman Christian Williams led the team by scoring 22 points with a season high of three six-pointers. Williams also led the team with three steals, not letting anything get past him. Sophomore Alia Pulli said, “Williams played really well this game.”
Titans fans across La Jolla High were excited to watch them catch back up in the second half. Sophomore Olivia Morrison-Reyes expressed her excitement, stating, “The Titans had a great comeback from losing in the first half.”
