A$AP Rocky recently announced a new album called Don’t Be Dumb. He collaborated with Tim Burton to make his album cover, incorporating Burton’s signature gothic cartoon style. His upcoming tour has also created major excitement across his fanbase, especially among high school students. Known for his experimental sound, creativity with visuals, and lasting influence on modern rap and fashion, A$AP Rocky is not just a household name but an artist who has left an impact on music.
For many students, the announcement alone was enough to spark enthusiasm. Freshman Hudson Ruff described his reaction, “It was exciting news for me, I like his music.” While Junior Adelyn Lafever shared, “I was so excited for his new album drop, he’s one of my favorite rappers.” For fans like these, the release marked A$AP Rocky’s return after relatively few music releases.
When students were asked which songs they liked, many mentioned tracks that have gained popularity amongst fans. Lafever stated, “My favorite songs from him are Jukebox Joints & Fashion Killa.” Suggesting that some fans want to hear nostalgic songs at A$AP Rocky’s tour.
This excitement is reflected in their varied opinions of the newly released album, which were mixed but, in a sense, thoughtful. Hudson shared, “Of his new track, I like Helicopter.” Whereas Adelyn said, “SWAT team is my favorite.” While students found songs they enjoyed, not everyone felt the album was as memorable as his other albums. Adelyn noted, “I like it, but it sounds different; more alternative than his other albums. I just didn’t like it as much as his other work.” If A$AP Rocky were to bring his tour to San Diego, many students believe the experience would be unforgettable. From the crowd atmosphere to the visuals and production, the announcement of a tour is exciting many Rocky fans.
