The 83rd Golden Globe Awards show took place on January 11 at the Beverly Hilton. This annual event was hosted by comedian Nikki Glaser for the second year in a row, who has since been widely praised as a successful, entertaining, and comedic host. The nominations for all 28 categories in this year’s ceremony were revealed on December 8.
Additionally, many celebrities were seen at the Golden Globes, including Ariana Grande, Timothée Chalamet, Selena Gomez, and others. Sophomore Anneliese Gonzalez said, “Watching the Golden Globes award show was very entertaining. I liked seeing some of my favorite celebrities there, such as Leonardo DiCaprio and Selena Gomez.” One event at the Golden Globes that stood out to many was when Snoop Dogg presented the best podcast award; he made unexpected comedic remarks, making for a memorable speech. Sophomore Martin Toscano said, “I watched some parts of the Golden Globes; my favorite part was seeing Snoop Dogg, because he is one of my favorite rappers.”
The evening also featured several notable awards: best drama motion picture went to Hamnet, best animated motion picture to KPop Demon Hunters, and best actor in a musical or comedy film to Timothee Chalamet for Marty Supreme. The biggest overall winner of the Golden Globes, however, was One Battle After Another, ending the night with nine nominations and four wins—the most of any film. Junior Linnea Young said, “I have seen the movie One Battle After Another. It is a really good movie and definitely deserved to win the Golden Globes.” While the annual awards show received mixed reactions from viewers, it was considered a successful event overall.
