Semester 2 has just begun, and some seniors are already giving up and/or dropping their harder classes. Since most have already sent their semester 1 grades to their prospective colleges, motivation in grade 12 has taken a serious hit. Some seniors say it doesn’t matter what they get this semester or what classes they take because it won’t be on their transcript, so as long as they don’t go below a C, they should be fine. Senior Luis Silivia Ortega says that because he’s turned in his application, whatever happens afterward shouldn’t affect him as much. Ortega shared, “This semester doesn’t matter anymore, and I have fewer classes, so less to worry about.”
On the other hand, some seniors are still putting in the work to show they’re like this year-round, despite already submitting their college applications. Senior Cashton Benasfre said, “I still want to finish off my final year of school with everything I got!” Just as Benasfre is trying to put in the same effort as last semester, counselors have warned seniors against falling completely ill with senioritis, as colleges may take a glimpse at their second-semester grades. Though giving up seems like the easiest option, there is a risk that colleges might rescind offers of admission to incoming freshmen. To avoid this disaster, counselors recommend that seniors put in their best effort, whether seen or not.
