How Should the U.S. Support Ukraine?

As the conflict between Russia and Ukraine continues, many wonder if the United States is doing enough to help Ukraine. So far, the U.S. has committed $2 billion in security assistance since the start of the Biden administration. This has been used for anti-aircraft systems, grenade launchers, rifles, pistols, machine guns, shotguns, helmets, body armor, ammunition, and other supplies. Along with this, the U.S. has also sent boats, helicopters, tactical gear, and other vehicles. The United States has also helped them set up short-range air defense systems, and is helping them acquire long-range systems for air defense. This is the perfect way to help support Ukraine against the invasion by Russia. Although we aren’t directly sending troops over to Ukraine to help defend, we are still supporting their country by sending money over so that their military can be better equipped to fight against the strong Russian army.

Yes, because if the U.S. were to get involved more, then Russia would think that they’re doing too much to help and declare war on us.

— Talon Secrest, senior

When asked if he thinks that the United States is doing enough to support Ukraine, senior Talon Secrest said, “Yes, because if the U.S. were to get involved more, then Russia would think that they’re doing too much to help and declare war on us.” Talon’s ideology can also be seen throughout history, such as when Germany was invading countries before World War 2, and no one stopped them because they didn’t want Germany to declare war on them. Senior Dylan Posey agrees with Talon, “Yes, they are their own country so we should not risk our country’s security for someone else.” Hopefully, the invasion ends soon and it doesn’t turn into a bigger war.
