The situation in Iran doesn’t get nearly enough attention. Most of the news coverage in Iran is overshadowed by the situation happening domestically within the U.S government, as well as the silencing of the Iranian people by their government. Thousands of protestors were killed in Iran because they were protesting economic issues and for human rights. Additionally, there are potential threats of nuclear bombs being made by the Iranian government. The U.S. is involved presently with the situation in Iran, having multiple military sanctions to keep the atomic weapon progress of Iran in check. The American people need to stay informed about their government’s actions, both domestically and internationally. Although the U.S. and Iran are not formally at war, the presence of military might causes enough tension for the risk of war.
Compared to other news circulating on the internet, not enough people take notice of this matter. Alex Lee, a senior, states, “I am not informed about it, or aware of it, since I don’t know much about it.” This is particularly worrisome, as the situation in Iran could develop into a catalyst for war due to heightened tensions. Nathan Rowell, a junior, remarked that, “there could be enough coverage, but since people are more focused on domestic issues like Greenland, ICE, and Venezuela, Iran is kind of overshadowed.” The issues happening in Iran could be focused on, but as Rowell said, the subject is overshadowed by other news that holds different levels of importance to the American people. These issues may gain popularity, but Iran is not getting enough attention as of now.
