Honestly? The Starbucks bear cup just is not worth it. Sure, it is cute, a little glass bear with a green beanie lid and straw, but that is pretty much where the excitement ends. What really kills it for me is the hype. The moment it hit stores on November 6th, people lined up as early as 3:00 A.M. in the morning. But most walked away empty-handed because stores only had one or two in stock. To wait in a line is not fun, let alone for a cup, and in the end someone may not even get their hands on it. Now that is pointless. Then there is the price, the cups are priced at around $30, which is way more expensive than other glass cups out there. Freshman Ayalea Elhassani believes that, ¨it is worth it because it’s so cute and it’s reusable. The only thing is it can be a little pricey, and the line is just too much.” Since it is made of glass it could break easily, but someone can buy a regular glass cup for much less and it serves the same purpose. It is only for cold drinks, so for coffee people it is only going to sit on their shelf. Alexander Moeller, a sophomore, states, ¨it’s really stupid because you wait in a line for the chance you might get nothing. The amount you have to pay is crazy!” It is more a display piece than a daily use. The cup sold out instantly, and now people are reselling it online for ridiculous and highly marked prices. That kind of price makes it feel less like a fun collectible and more like a marketing trap. On top of that, the bear cup is not unique anymore. Dozens of copycat versions have popped up online for a fraction of the cost. At the end of the day, it is cute, but not worth all this obsession.
