All I Really Need to Know I Learned From Being a Zombie. Sounds interesting, right? The theater department put on this show for three nights on October 9, 10, and 11—perfect for the spooky season. The play is a mix of comedy and a life lesson, ironically using zombies to portray the meaning of life. It explores life, death, and acceptance through the perspective of a zombie. It emphasizes that brains are not everything, you are what you eat, and what doesn’t kill you makes you more alive. Whether you like stories with zombies or plays in general, the show promises to deliver joy to fans who choose to watch. Junior Jacqui Smith, a cast member, when asked if she would watch the play even if she wasn’t involved, said, “I don’t think the play is very well written or entertaining… We usually take on more serious material like The Crucible that challenges us as actors… If I wasn’t part of this production, I wouldn’t go see it, it’s just not my type of show.” This leaves people wondering: Is the play worth it? After watching the performance, a few things can be said. The acting was good—as good as high schoolers can get, of course—and the play itself didn’t really have any storyline. However, each scene is supposed to teach you a life lesson, which might explain the lack of backbone. The dance numbers were wonderful but a bit disappointing, considering there wasn’t much energy. Lastly, when asking freshman Alexa Carey what she thinks, she said, “Yes, it is very interesting. I would go to watch this play even if I wasn’t a part of it.” Love it or not, the play definitely gave audiences something to think about.
