After last year’s homecoming, La Jolla High School students had lowered their expectations for this year. However, attendance on Saturday, October 26, was relatively good. The theme this year was Mardi Gras. Notably, to enter the dance, people were required to hand over their bags for a quick search. The decorations consisted of bright colored lights and themed tables for attendees to rest on, scattered around the small field. When asked about her opinions on the homecoming decor, Junior Mia Reese-Gomez said, “I was surprised there weren’t chairs or anything to sit on.” A photo booth was included in the festivities; students used the themed props to liven their pictures. Freshman Lily Alva describes her experience, saying, “We got there early, and as time went on, a bunch of people arrived. A lot of people were just dancing.” ASB also provided games like cornhole for attendees to enjoy. Candy was placed on tiered displays decorated for the theme in addition to provided water bottles. A DJ played popular hits to get the crowd dancing, which Alva said she enjoyed, “I knew a lot of the songs, and they were pretty good.” In terms of dressing up, the theme was mainly abandoned, but the crowd still dressed formally. All in all, the dance was an enjoyable experience for most who attended.
