These past few months have been filled with many exciting events and challenges for students. As the 2024-2025 school year comes to a close, students of La Jolla High reflect on their journey thus far. We asked students about their classes, what they would recommend to incoming grades, and the most enjoyable events of the year.
Freshman Mia Schneider shared about her first year of high school, saying her hardest class was “definitely Advanced Biology with Ms. Eaton.” Reflecting on fun events, Schneider added, “I thought the pep rally towards the beginning of the year was pretty fun.” Freshman Delaney Dill also reflected on her year, saying, “I had fun this year; my hardest class was biology and my favorite class was PE. I would recommend it to incoming freshmen. I enjoyed the pep rallies.” The pep rallies at La Jolla High, put on by our ASB, are typically held twice a year and feature performances, games, and challenges that students can participate in or watch.
Sophomore Alex Auwbry, reflecting on his second year of high school, said, “My hardest class was chemistry, and I really enjoyed the most recent dance, winter formal.” This year’s winter formal was held at Birch Aquarium, fittingly with an “under the sea” theme. Sophomore Cole Weiss shared his advice for incoming sophomores, saying, “This year went well. I got my grades up. My hardest class was chemistry, for sure.” Although Weiss mentioned he only attended homecoming, he added, “I heard the dance at Birch Aquarium was pretty fun.” For academic advice, he said, “I recommend all sophomores to take AP Euro with Atwell, avoid chemistry, please, and take physics. That’s my advice.”
When asked about his academic experience this year, Junior Oliver Kincaid said, “My hardest class was probably AP English, and I would definitely recommend AP US History.” Coral McIntyre, another junior, reflected on her year, saying, “I would say it was a really good year; I got most of the things I wanted to do off my bucket list. My hardest class was probably math.” She added, “Honestly, winter formal was pretty fun.” McIntyre also gave a course recommendation, saying, “Take marine science. I love it. I think you can only take it if you’re a junior or senior, but it’s so fun.”
Finally, Senior Emilia Garcia Sanchez shared her perspective, saying, “I’m taking pretty easy classes, just having fun. I would recommend taking AP Psychology; it’s really fun.” Reflecting on her academic challenges, Garcia Sanchez said, “My hardest class is probably government economics, but my favorite class is AVID. It helped me a lot with college.
Overall, students have had both challenging and memorable experiences this year that they will carry into the next school year or beyond.
