Spring Sports in Season

In the spring, a new set of sports comes into season at La Jolla High School, including baseball, beach volleyball, women’s lacrosse, and men’s golf. La Jolla High School is unique in that many spring sports coaches are actually teachers at the school. Track and field coach Mr. Byrne is also a math teacher and ASB advisor. Mr. Frank is the head coach for the baseball team and a PE teacher. Other coaches include Mr. Atwell, Ms. Saffran, and Mr. Jones.

The men’s golf season began in January. Justin Wood, a varsity golf player, said, “If you want to play the sport, just have patience.” Wood has been playing golf for eleven years and, as a junior, this will be his third year playing for La Jolla.

Many upcoming sports this season have different levels of play, from freshman level to varsity, so no matter what grade or skill level, there’s a team for every player. The upcoming season is always a little daunting, even for the more experienced players, like Haiden Uhrig, who has played baseball for eleven years. He says, “Tryouts are difficult, but the way to get through it is with a good attitude.” No matter if you’re a competitive athlete or just a person looking to try something new, there’s a sport for you during the spring season at La Jolla High School!
