Controversial Winter Formal Prices

The La Jolla High ASB ball has always had a costly entry fee, with prices starting at 35 dollars in past years. It would be logical to think that the ASB team would want to lower these prices and maybe tighten their budget with a cheaper venue to be more inclusive for everyone’s price range. This is, in fact, the opposite of what they decided to do this year, as ASB went all out with an extravagant venue and excessive amenities. This inherently inflated the prices to an outrageous 75 dollars, deterring students from choosing to attend and only causing losses for the ASB team.

I would never spend that much money on a school dance!

— Abel Delgadillo, junior

Abel Delgadillo, a junior at La Jolla High, communicated his outrage, stating, “I would never spend that much money on a school dance!” On the other hand, a representative from the ASB team counters this by explaining why they have raised the prices this year. Sebastian Lee says, “There is going to be way more things this year, it is definitely worth the price. We will provide free food, free games, a taco bar, a churro bar and many more things.” This poses a valid argument, as students in the past have always wanted the dances to have more things and to be more fun. However, due to the substantial increase in ticket prices, the majority of La Jolla High students decided not to attend.
