Megan Sweeney

Megan Sweeney is a senior in her first year as editor-in-chief of the Hi-Tide. Three years ago, she entered Journalism as a staff writer. She was later appointed to the position of column editor and created “Spotlight”, which replaced the Business column. In her spare time, she writes creatively and explores her interest in journalism. In 2019, she won third place in the La Jolla Literary Society Short Story Contest. Megan has also participated in two pre-college writing programs over the summer. After her sophomore year, she traveled to Northampton, Massachusetts to attend the Smith College Young Women’s Writing Workshop. While there, she published a poem in the Smith Student Anthology. This summer, she went to the Northwestern-Medill Cherub Program in Evanston, Illinois. It has expanded her knowledge of journalism and even forced her into the field; interviewing strangers about controversial topics like vaccinations.

Megan looks forward to working with the editorial staff and getting to know new staff writers. She welcomes guest contributors to write from outside the classroom and hopes to produce a newspaper all La Jolla High students can be proud to call their own.
