The performer at the highly anticipated halftime show at the 2026 Super Bowl 60 has been announced as Bad Bunny, the Puerto Rican rapper and singer. Bad Bunny had originally stated that he did not want to play in the U.S. since he was worried for his fans’ safety and ICE being outside his concert. Instead, he encouraged people to fly to countries outside the United States to see his show. In his interview with i-D magazine, he said, “But there was the issue that … ICE could be outside [my concert venue]. And it’s something that we were talking about and very concerned about”, expressing his concern over his fans’ safety in light of recent mass deportations. Many people weren’t happy when they heard that he would be performing for the Super Bowl halftime show. Instead people hoped that Metallica would play at the Super Bowl for the halftime show, especially since the game will be held near their hometown. Many rock fans were let down by the announcement to perform. Additionally, the Trump administration has decided to send ICE to the Super Bowl because Bad Bunny is performing. Corey Lewandowski, one of Trump’s advisors, added, “There is nowhere you can provide a safe haven to people who are in this country illegally, not the Super Bowl and nowhere else,” implying that Bad Bunny’s fans wouldn’t be safe at the game. Many students were excited to hear that Bad Bunny was performing. Cesar Mariscal, a freshman, said, “I am happy that Bad Bunny is performing because the performance will be interesting and his music is very good”. Additionally, Sage Feerrar, a sophomore, said, “I am a big fan of Bad Bunny. I love him and I’m excited that he is performing this year. My favorite song by him is DTMF”. Bad Bunny is facing backlash from conservative critics, adding tension to the upcoming halftime show. The Puerto Rican artist will be performing on February 8, exciting and disappointing fans of the Super Bowl.
