Leyla Yazici, a senior on the Varsity field hockey team, has been playing throughout middle school and high school. She has been a key player on the team, especially now in her final year at LJHS. Her extensive field hockey experiences give her a unique outlook on the sport. Keep reading for an exclusive interview!
Q: “How long have you been playing field hockey?”
LY: “I’ve been playing field hockey for about 7 years now.”
Q: “What made you start playing field hockey?”
LY: “My sister used to play, and I thought it looked really fun, so I started getting into it.”
Q: “What’s your favorite part of being on the LJHS Varsity team?”
LY: “My favorite part is definitely the connection between all the players and the community built around the sport. I feel like I’ve made a lot of friends on the team.”
Q: “What has been the biggest factor in your success in field hockey?”
LY: “I think just being willing to take criticism and taking advice from coaches and adapting when you need it.”
Q: “What has been your favorite moment in your years on the LJHS team?”
LY: “Our entire CIF run last season in 2024 was really fun. I think our team working through struggles of deficits in games was really memorable and made us stronger.”
Q: “What have you learned most from your teammates?”
LY: “I’ve really learned to work with all different types of people and adapt to different playing styles. I feel like I’ll be able to use that for life.”
Q: “Are you planning on playing in college? Which college?”
LY: “I’m not planning on playing on the official school team in college. I don’t know which college I’m going to go to, but I’ll definitely still pursue field hockey on the side and play as a hobby.”
