The girls sprinted back and forth, with shots flying left and right. On Saturday, September 6, the Junior Varsity A Field Hockey Girls team played a series of challenging games at their tournament. It was hot and humid at Canyon Hills that weekend, but the team persevered. Out of 5 games, they tied one, lost one, and won three, with total domination of the field throughout. Although the girls persisted and strived, the heat and conditions of the field lowered their confidence and energy.
Zakiya Genovese, a sophomore player on the team, said, “I was not very happy about it. We could’ve tried harder. We were really tired and it was hot. I feel like I played well, though, and we dominated the field.” Most of the girls were not especially thrilled with the results, despite doing their best. The girls recognize that they put in a lot of effort and that there were many highlights of the game. “It was a super fun game. Everyone did their best, and I’m definitely happy with how it turned out,” says Sophomore Sophia Meyer, another excellent player on the JV A team. Although the tournament had its ups and downs, the players performed exceptionally well overall, despite the setbacks.
