The Battle of Pearl Street football game against the Bishops Knights has become an annual tradition, although this year it is not scheduled to happen. Does this mean we won Pearl Street? Some students think that it is because we won against them last year. Many players are disappointed that there will not be a Battle of Pearl Street game this year.
Ethan Morrill, a sophomore on the Varsity football team, says, “I wish that we were playing Bishops this year because it is usually a fun game and I have friends on the Bishops team that I wanted to play against.” Additionally, many students who enjoy going to the football games and watching from the stands were also shocked when they heard there would be no game this year.
Ellery Riney, a sophomore who enjoys going to the games, says, “I’m curious why it is not happening this year, because I wanted to see who would win the Battle of Pearl Street.” LJHS won against Bishops last year, ending in a score of 21 to 38. Haiden Uhrig, a senior on the La Jolla Varsity football team, says, “I think it is a big deal we are not playing them this year because Bishops is a good rivalry to play against, and it would have been a better opening game instead of Torrey Pines, because they are a better competitor for us”.
