One of the most popular musicals, Hamilton, screened in theatres this week, and it is a spectacle for all Hamilton fans. It is extraordinary to see it on the big screens with other people who love the musical as much as you. The movie starts with an interview with the original cast of the film, created in 2016. The cast expressed their emotions on the creation of Hamilton and its growth in popularity over the decade. Then the interview fades into the musical, and you could really feel the magic surrounding the whole theater. The audience is then immersed in the narrative created by Lin-Manuel Miranda, the musical producer. At the end of Act 1, the movie gave the audience a 10-minute intermission to use the restroom, get more popcorn, more drinks, or sit and think about the first act. This makes it seem like the audience really is watching the play, as if the actors on stage are getting ready for the second act.
I personally think that the movie version of the musical should stay in theaters because even though it is 2nd to the in-person experience of the musical, it’s way more experience-enhancing than watching it on a small computer screen on Disney+. But because of Disney+, I wouldn’t say that this was a must-watch in the theaters. If you are a Hamilton fan or have never seen the musical, we highly recommend catching this movie from September 5 to 11. “Be in the room where it happens,” as Lin-Manuel Miranda said.
