Sabrina Carpenter’s new album “Man’s Best Friend” was released on August 29, and immediately sparked controversy, from the album’s name to the cover, showing Sabrina on her hands and knees with her hair being grabbed. Lots of people thought the cover was setting women back and saw it as demeaning, showing how women are seen as pets. However, some people, such as Cruz Beope Soriano, a ninth grader, thought the opposite: “I don’t get why it’s getting all the hate because artists have done controversial album covers in the past and they will go on the record to say that they fully don’t support it”. Many people continue to support the artist, regardless of the hate she’s getting. Freshman Alexa Carey when asked about the topic said, “The song ‘Tears’ is good and the album cover isn’t bad, it’s just a cover.” Even with this controversy, her album still landed the most-streamed pop album of 2025 according to Amazon Music. There were 366,000 copies sold within the first week of its release. She made the Billboard top 100 songs with “Tears” being 3rd and “Manchild” being 4th. Sabrina Carpenter joins SZA, Taylor Swift, and Olivia Rodrigo as the only women to chart 12 songs in the top 100 simultaneously. Sabrina responded to the album’s backlash in a recent Rolling Stones interview, saying that everything about the cover was “so opposite of the world ending.” She said that she had interpreted the album cover to be “being in on the control, being in on your lack of control, and when you want to be in control.”
