Yet another La Jolla High football regular season comes to an end. The Vikings had high hopes for the year of making the Division One playoffs. They fell short of their expectations at the beginning of the year. The team finished the regular season 6-4. They dropped games to Rancho Bernardo, Scripps Ranch, Point Loma, and University City. Throughout the season, the team has faced a lot of adversity, from injuries to star Quarterback Hudson Smith to nearly their whole defense dealing with health issues. Although the team lost their last two games to Point Loma and University City, they earned a Division 2 playoff berth against Madison last Friday at 7 PM. The team was hopeful for a deep run in the playoffs.
La Jolla secured the sixth seed and home-field advantage for the first postseason game. Offensive assistant coach of the La Jolla High football team coach, Christopher Macy, says that during the playoffs, to have success and reach their end goal of winning a CIF championship, they’re going to have to “Take it game by game and play complimentary football; the scoreboard will take care of itself.” The team is taking a composed approach to the coming games week in and week out. Junior Renner Smith says, “I’m ready to go out and win a CIF Championship with my guys.”
Friday night, with La Jolla having home-field advantage for the first game of the postseason, the Vikings were hopeful to secure a victory. With impressive plays from the Vikings, the team won against the Warhawks 27-15. The team improved their record to 7-4 this season.
