This year’s Homecoming dance took place on Saturday, October 26th, at the lower field and it was held from 7-10 p.m. Dozens of students, ranging from freshman to seniors, enjoyed dancing to some sick beats and hanging out with their friends. This Homecoming was definitely a memorable experience for most students, but there should have been better service and more control on the dance floor.
This year’s Homecoming brought a groovy vibe to the party with the theme being Mardi Gras. The party started off with some music and everyone was at the field hanging out and having fun with their friends. It was not until later on, when the DJ started playing some different songs, that a crowd formed at the dance floor. Sophomore Alexandra Awbrey said, “The thing I liked the most about Hoco was the people, especially because I knew more people now that I’m a sophomore.” The crowd was going wild, dancing around and having fun.
Although Hoco was mostly a fun event, there were some elements to it that might have ruined the experience for people. There were many sightings of people throwing various items into the crowd, and was a large complaint from students. Junior Frida Turchin stated “I think that they did pretty good this year. Nothing was really truly thrown except for hard candy. Also, there was a lot of water on the dance floor and I saw a lot of people slip.” For problems such as these, staff members should have had more control over the water and snacks and make the students who threw the food face repercussions because there were already many hurt in the dance floor.
Another large issue was how crowded the dance floor was, with junior Zoran Shepanski saying, “A bigger dance floor and more tables would have definitely helped.” Students at Hoco overall had plenty of fun, and staff made a great party with amazing decorations and details, but the staff members should have had more control over situations like water spilling and throwing hard candy. Nevertheless, these hazardous situations could have easily been avoided if teachers or other members in charge took action to put a stop to these situations.
