On October 31st, a person was shot close to San Diego State University at an underground trolley station, near Campanile Drive and Hardy Avenue, around 5pm. According to kpbs, “A firearm was recovered, [SDPD Captain] Sharki said, and the shooting appears to be an isolated incident.” Two suspects in the crime are currently in custody, one of which is alleged to have been the shooter. However, a third is being searched for who might also have been involved. The weapon, a small handgun, was recovered alongside the suspects. No details of the third suspect are available. None of the individuals involved in the case are involved with SDSU, whether as students or faculty.
The victim, a male of unknown age, was taken to a local hospital and given treatment for his non-life-threatening wounds. His condition is unknown, but he will likely recover fully. No other individuals were harmed in the event.
SDSU students and faculty throughout the night were receiving instructions from the police on safety protocols. These were mostly advising people to stay inside. At 8:00 pm, the police issued an all clear. However, all classes and activities scheduled for that night were canceled.
No motives behind the shooting have been presented, and the SDPD is currently investigating any possible justifications. Anyone with extra information on the case is encouraged to come forward.
