The Optimus Tesla robot was first introduced in 2021, and there have been various updates since then. Generation 2 was introduced in 2022, and Generation 3 was recently shown this year. So far, this robot can walk around, squat, and sort and lift objects. These robots are manufactured by Elon Musk, the owner of Tesla and the Optimus robot received its name from the main character in the Transformers franchise. Furthermore, Musk’s plans for the Optimus Robot include being able to babysit kids, walk dogs, get groceries, and more household tasks. Additionally, the cost of one of these robots is estimated to be 20,000 to 30,000 dollars and the Optimus robot is 5’8 and weighs 160 pounds. These technological advancements have come a long way and have the opportunity to benefit the world.
Musk predicts there will be more robots than humans in 20 years time. Liana Welsing, a junior at LJHS explains, “I have heard of them online and I think they are weird.” She added, “I can envision a war happening with them, they are abnormal.” There are downsides and upsides to these creations if they are handled correctly.
Alexander Paul, a junior at LJHS, has a different opinion on the robot. He thinks they “are pretty cool… and I would want one in my future house to do all my chores for me.” Paul thinks their benefits to the world would outweigh the negatives “because they do the repetitive boring chores that allow people to focus on themselves rather than stressing about small things like laundry.” The Tesla Optimus robots are fairly new and not released yet, so speculations are out about these inventions but the world must wait until 2026 to see the outcome of this advanced artificial intelligence robot.
