With the fall sports season coming to an end, many of La Jolla High’s sports teams are preparing for the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) playoff games. With a seasonal record of 13-5, the La Jolla varsity Field Hockey team is scheduled to play in a game against longtime rivals, Canyon Hills High School. This will be the first game of the CIF Open Division playoffs. The 2024 fall season for the team has been nothing but phenomenal, senior captain, Pixie DeLeon comments on the season, “This season has been super fun, we’ve had a lot of hard games, but we’ve won most of them so that’s great, we currently are number two in San Diego.” The Vikings have also placed second in all of California.
Head coach Amanda Warford said, “I feel like this team has like all the pieces of the puzzle that we’ve been working for and looking for in the past.” Having a close bonded team is what propels the team to work so well together. Freshman Sofia Saiegh shares her gratitude for the team this year, “I think that our team bonding and chemistry is different from past years. Making new friendships has meant a lot to me. We’re like a family.” This year, Coach Warford has focused on the mental training and strength in the program’s athletes, this has had a positive impact on the players.
While prepping for CIF, Coach Warford added, “I think we’re going to win it all. I really do. I believe this team has a really good chance at going all the way to [the] playoffs for CIF, we just have to get our game faces on and go one hundred percent,” DeLeon said.
