This year, the iconic Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show made a comeback in New York City on October 15. It was clear from both the clothing and the models that the brand was addressing criticisms of their image. While Victoria’s Secret has traditionally embraced a glamorous, “bombshell” style, this show focused on inclusivity and diversity. Models of different ages, shapes, and sizes took the runway, including familiar faces like Adriana Lima, Kate Moss, and Tyra Banks, who made a much-anticipated return to the Victoria’s Secret catwalk. This updated direction sparked mixed reactions among fans, with some welcoming the changes and others missing the original look.
Many students appreciated the show’s rebrand. Senior Vienna Harrington thought it felt more current, saying, “I think it’s more up-to-date. They brought in all different body shapes and different girls.” For her, seeing a mix of both new and seasoned “angels” made the show feel in touch with today’s fashion scene.
Others, however, were less impressed. Senior Ivana Feinberg thought the show lost some of its unique style. Senior Ivana Feinberg was disappointed with the toned-down approach, stating, “Some wings were broken, and their outfits didn’t look great. It looked super cheap.” She felt that the simple hairstyles and less elaborate wings took away from the brand’s signature glamor.
These mixed reactions show how difficult it is for Victoria’s Secret to balance the new with the old. While some fans appreciate the brand’s efforts to change with the times, others feel it’s lost the spark that made it special. Only time will tell if Victoria’s Secret can adapt to today’s trends without losing its iconic class.
