La Jolla High’s 2024 Tennis Season is coming to an end. Junior varsity completed the year with quite a few wins, and varsity is striving to win California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Division 2. Varsity coach Jack Kruger describes how he became a coach at LJHS, “Since I played a lot of tennis in my day, and La Jolla High is my alma mater, I felt it was an honor to come out here and give back to the community. I wanted to coach young people, try to make a difference, and give wisdom to students.”
Senior Trevor Lorimer, one of the senior varsity captains, explains how the varsity team has a good chance of winning CIF Division 2. She says, “We are at the top of division two, and everyone is excited to hopefully make it all the way to the championship.”
Furthermore, sophomore Adelyn LaFever, junior varsity captain, comments on the team’s season overall. LaFever says, “I liked our teamwork. Everyone was really supportive, and everyone really improved. We are a really fun team!” Many players on JV this year had minimal tennis experience before playing for LJHS. The players have a great opportunity to be a part of a big team and work together to progress as tennis players. Lastly, assistant JV and varsity Coach Charlie Recksieck, an alumnus from the class of 1985, says, “We like watching freshmen players grow throughout the years.”
Overall, the JV and varsity teams learned a lot throughout the season. Hopefully, the varsity girls will be successful with CIF!
As of 11/13/2024: LJHS has won the CIF San Diego Section D2 Championship.
