Lana Del Rey, 39, and her now-husband, Jeremy Dufrene, exchanged “I do’s” on Thursday, Sept. 26. PEOPLE magazine confirms that the surprise wedding took place in Des Allemands, Louisiana, at the public bayou where Dufrene works as an airboat tour guide. Just days before, on Sept. 23, the two had obtained a marriage license from the Lafourche Parish Clerk of Court in Louisiana. The two had only been publicly dating for a month, but there is evidence that they met five years earlier in 2019 after Del Rey went on an alligator boat tour. However, it seems this wedding was a surprise to most people, even those who may be closer to the couple. Dufrene’s ex-fiancée, Kelli Welsh, of 12 years, revealed she was shocked and only learned of the wedding when she was shown pictures the next day. “I am in shock because we were engaged for 12 years, and he got married after one month,” she said. Despite her shock, she explains, “I am happy for him… He needed to get out of his comfort zone.” Del Rey’s fans are happy about this news. La Jolla High School sophomore Luciana Balderrabano says, “She deserves this. I’ve been a fan for so long, and so of course I’m happy for them. I really hope they last.”
Pictures of the couple, days after their wedding, have circulated the internet. Although paparazzi have been catching these two in many cute moments, Del Rey commented under an Instagram post by lanaboards.ig, “If [a famous New Orleans paparazzi]…could stop following us around… I know we would feel a lot safer.” It seems the press has been a lot, but Del Rey adds under the same post, “All that being said, Jeremy is the one and only. And amazing. And we’re very happy.”
