Warner Bros released the trailer for A Minecraft Movie which was immediately met with disgust: fans, reviewers, and critics alike have gathered together to complain about the film’s unpolished appearance and strange artistic direction.
Prospective viewers simply don’t like the decision to turn an animated game into a live action movie where the characters are played by humans and the world around them is CGI.
LJHS seniors Nathan Lam and Elijah Jones were asked about the movie trailer. Lam, when asked about his opinion on the CGI, said “I think the CGI doesn’t look the most polished.” Jones was asked if he thought a game with so many options and possibilities should be made into a movie. He said, “I think anything that expands on the minecraft cannon is good but I definitely have several complaints about the way they’re doing it.” He elaborated, “My biggest complaint is the live action meshing with the CGI.”
It is important to note that the film has the director of Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre, a cast of well-known actors, source material that lends itself well to the big screen, and a loyal fanbase that may not like the look of the film but will see it anyway. However, based on the reactions to this trailer, it seems as though Warner Bros is digging themselves straight down.
