Alex Morgan, women’s soccer player, is retiring after 15 years. She played her last game on Sunday, September 8, with a loss 1-4 against North Carolina at Snapdragon Stadium. She successfully won two world cups in 2015 and 2019 and retired due to her pregnancy with her second child. Two seniors at La Jolla High School, Fiona Hanley and Stella Lee, were interviewed on their thoughts on Morgan’s retirement. Hanley said “I think it was time for her to retire, and her time was up’’ followed up with “she’s pregnant, so her retirement was expected, and hopefully in the future she could be a women’s soccer coach.” Hanley also referred to her having “legacy legs” because she is now a legacy for women’s soccer. Lee said, “she’s done so much for women’s sports, she’s a good motivation for young girls.” Morgan’s journey as a forward is now concluded with 13 minutes over the clock in her last game, before removing her cleats, blowing the crowd a kiss, and exiting the field. She played 150 NWSL games, with 63 of her games being played in San Diego. She played an important influence in many young girls’ lives, and she played a big role in the Women’s soccer community. Morgan’s soccer legacy will continue to be admired by everyone around the world.
