The Fall Guy is a recently released 2024 movie starring Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, currently being played in theaters. The movie is based on the 80s TV series The Fall Guy (1981), with an identical movie theme regarding stunt performances. The movie is, however, suffering at the box office, with a film budget of around 150 million, only bringing in, as of the 9th of May, around 70 million so far. Significant actors, “Ryan Gosling,” known for his role in “Barbie” and Emily Blunt, known for her role in “Oppenheimer” are the main characters of the film, making the movie more appealing to viewers due to their popularity and fame. Senior Keith Bainter said, “I know it has Ryan Gosling, that’s all.” After watching the movie, it is clear that though the stunts were an exciting highlight, the film lacked in many other departments. The movie starts with Gosling’s character, “Colt Seavers,” after being severely injured because of a failed stunt in the past; he ends up working as a valet for a Mexican restaurant. Seavers gets a call about joining his ex-girlfriend’s film production and agrees. He soon arrives on set and learns that Jody, his ex-girlfriend played by Blunt, never wanted him to join the production. Later in the film, Seavers encounters many intense incidents, including the disappearance of the actor he stunt doubles for, finding a dead body, attacks by henchmen, a boat chase, stunts involving jumping onto a helicopter, and more. The movie was action-packed, captivating to watch, and great because stunts and action were the basis of this film. However, the comedy needed to be improved; the movie should have focused more on its comedic value. Instead, it needed to be more heavily in this department despite the film being advertised clearly as an action and comedy. The movie is somewhat of a failure and success; it wasn’t bad or good, just not entirely there. Senior McCoy Mcinerney said, “I’ve only seen multiple trailers; it looks a little uninspired. I like Ryan Gosling as an actor, I think most people do, as well as Emily Blunt, but the whole thing seems high profile; it looks like they are using the celebrities to pad the movie, to make up for the lack of writing.” To conclude, The Fall Guy is a relatively good watch. However, it would need more comedic elements and a stronger foundation for a chance of becoming a big hit.
