La Jolla High School has been known to make waves with its incredible sports, especially our water polo teams. As Varsity Water Polo Coach Amy Jennings explains, “The top 8 teams in Division 1 break away to make their own division, the Open Division,” and this year, the LJHS Varsity Girls Team holds the #2 spot in all of San Diego County.
As it is such a high-level team, there are many girls who go on to play at a collegiate level. These players tend to set higher expectations for the team. But not too high. “I feel really good about our opportunity to win this and maybe have a good game with Bishop’s in the final. But a smart coach knows that it’s only one game at a time, so we can’t go any further until we win the semi finals against Carlsbad,” says Coach Jennings.
If you go to La Jolla High, you might know that The Bishop’s School is one of La Jolla’s biggest rivals. To win CIFs, the team will most likely come head-to-head with Bishop’s in the final. The tricky part is winning. So far this season, La Jolla Varsity Girls have won 18 out of their 24 games, but both games against Bishop’s have ended in losses. Despite these setbacks, the team will train hard and hopefully make a big splash in the playoffs, and they are determined to bring home a victory to boost school pride and excite all their supporters.
