The La Jolla High School Field Hockey Season is currently in full swing. With the season almost halfway through, all three teams have quite a few wins under their belt. On the Varsity team, there are several notable players who stand out, such as Senior Captain Sienna Gustafson, and the top goal scorer of the team, sophomore Allison Hawthorne. The coaches, Amanda and Tucker Warford, have been growing the La Jolla High team for seven years now, and with Varsity recently winning against long-time rival Scripps Ranch, it seems that the team is going to greater heights than ever before.
From the Junior Varsity A team, sophomore Savannah Putnam comments on her team’s season so far. Putnam says, “it’s going pretty well. So far, we’ve only lost a few games and are basically undefeated.” With their team’s performance on track, Putnam reports that their team is also getting along and says that they often bond with the other two teams, Varsity, and JV B.
For the JV B team, which is made up of Freshmen, the beginning of the season is usually a little challenging because many of them have never played the sport before. Freshman Linnea Young says, “We had a rocky start with a bunch of zero to zero ties. But our whole team got better the more we played.”
It is clear that the teams have some goals for the rest of the season. Putnam says, “We don’t want to lose any more games, at least. From here on out we want to have an undefeated season.” With the season slowly drawing to a close, La Jolla High is guaranteed to watch all three field hockey teams on the field.
