John F. Kennedy: A national hero and arguably one of the best presidents this country has seen. His nephew, Robert F. Kennedy, hopes to continue the legendary Kennedy legacy of serving as the country’s president.
Robert Kennedy, a long-time Democrat, has recently decided to run as an independent against both Biden and the Republican Party. Kennedy announced his separation from the Democratic Party because he believed that both parties were corrupt in their leadership and, according to an announcement released by his campaign, he wished to “rewrite and change the habits of American politics.”
Kennedy, an avid anti-vax supporter, is running on the principle of having less government enforcement of vaccines. He wishes to end the mandatory children’s vaccines along with adding more lenient state laws regarding public health. Kennedy’s criticism of how the American government handled the coronavirus situation has garnered him many supporters. Senior Gus Renaldi points out, “It is ironic that he is anti-vax and also criticizes how Americans handed COVID-19. If people hadn’t taken the vaccine we would have been dealing with COVID-19 for a long longer than we did.” Additionally, Robert Kennedy was found to be popular amongst many voters who were dissatisfied with both the Republican and Democratic parties.
Kennedy said that his running for president as an independent candidate would disrupt the election. Notably, the Democratic Party has expressed its concern that Kennedy would peel Democratic voters away from Biden. At the National Constitution Center, Kennedy stated, “The Democrats are frightened that I’m going to spoil the election for President Biden . . . the truth, is they’re right.”
