Due to the Coggan Family Aquatic Complex being closed for renovations and repair, the La Jolla High School water polo team has been forced to adapt to a new environment. They have been training in a pool further away for several months now, significantly impacting their players’ practice time. Senior David Jimenez said, “Having a pool close to the school is really convenient. It plays a big role in the type of practice we do, so we are all hoping it opens soon.”
Regardless of the inconvenience, team members are working hard and playing well. The season has been positive, and new players are demonstrating their potential. With every school year, senior athletes leave their high school sports teams and move on, leaving upcoming seniors with the responsibility to succeed their graduated peers. Junior William Quesnell believes that the loss of “two major players was not good, but we make up for it with overall strength and skill.” Recently, coming out on top from a long-standing rivalry with the Bishop’s water polo team clearly shows that La Jolla High School has a strong and persevering water polo team, where, regardless of location, players work hard to rise above and break records.
