Unfortunate news spread around the world that England’s queen of 70 years has passed away, leaving this world as the longest living monarch. Queen Elizabeth II died on September 8th, 2022, at 96 years old, in the Balmoral Castle.

Princess Elizabeth II came to the throne at 10 years old after her uncle, King Edward VIII, handed down the throne. At 25 years old, following the death of her father, she became Queen. David Maycock, Ms. Maycock’s husband states, “I appreciate Queen Elizabeth’s lifelong devotion to the duties of monarch; I feel sad that she is no longer with us.” The queen did not expect this to be part of her life until her uncle, King Edward VIII, abdicated when she was 10 years old. This put her father, George VI, on the throne, and Elizabeth became Queen when he died.

Many mourn the death of the Queen for what she has done for England throughout the 70 years. However, some individuals aren’t upset about her death. Junior Chloe Williams states, “It’s sad for the people of England, however, it’s not that relevant for the people of America.” The impact of her death didn’t have as much of a drastic effect on America due to the differences in cultures. The Queen’s final resting place is St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle. On September 19th, 2022, the day of her funeral, thousands stood outside and paid their respects.

Queen Elizabeth II was an iconic figure in history who served her time as Queen of England and will always be remembered for who she was.
