San Diego Burglaries

Kamryn Clothier, Staff Writer

Over the past 6 months more than 56 homes have been robbed in high end residential neighborhoods. They are mainly happening after home owners leave to go to dinner or they are out of town. They are targeting homes that are in gated neighborhoods that usually look like nobody’s there. Dressed in all white with face masks,  they are ignoring the cameras and only spending about 10 minutes in the house targeting master bedrooms. While a couple was on vacation they watched the burglaries steal over 80,00 dollars worth of family heirlooms and jewelry.  Dr. Tony Lopez states, “They knew exactly what they were doing and where they were going. They looked self-assured, they did not seem like a burglar in panic, they just were like what you see in the movies.” They called the police, however the group of four burglars from Chili got out of there before the cops arrived.

They looked self-assured, they did not seem like a burglar in panic, they just were like what you see in the movies.

A home is supposed to be a safe space for families so it is never a good feeling to know that your home has been invaded. While having a gate and a protected house is good, it isn’t quite stopping a group of four. Two months later Lopez’s neighbor’s gated home had been robbed while she was at dinner with her son.  They stole $100,000 of jewelry and a safe while her dog was home. Once again they were not stopped by law enforcement. These robberies have been going on since about May 2021 and hopefully soon the criminals will be caught. Authorities recommend when you leave your home, make sure all your doors are locked and leave some lights on so it looks like someone is home. To be extra cautious it’s not a bad idea to also get a security system and always be aware of your surroundings.
