All of the student athletes at La Jolla High have been patiently waiting for this announcement. On November 10, San Diego Unified announced that three fall sports are allowed to start conditioning with their teams at the high school fields starting November 16, 2020. All new and returning players cannot wait to try out and play this upcoming season. All safety precautions instructed by the state and district are in effect throughout these practice sessions and are considered off-season training, which has been approved by the CIF organization.

Paula Conway, the athletic director of La Jolla High, said, “Our athletes and coaches are one big family, and allowing these practices to be held is helping the students feel a part of the school again.” Conway also talked about all of the athletes being very mindful of all of the precautions and taking on the responsibilities of being safe before, after, and throughout these practices.

Senior Noah Pavlik is super excited to be back on the football field, “I am just happy to be back with my boys at our home field, and we are all super pumped to start the season soon,” said Pavlik. The Vikings football team started these conditioning sessions earlier this week and will continue these practices every day after online school.

Both coaches and athletes are excited to kick-off these workout sessions, which they hope is a step towards normal practices and eventually games.
