Jarad Anthony Higgins, known professionally as Juice WRLD, suffered a seizure in Chicago’s Midway airport on December 8th, only days after his 21st birthday on December 2nd. Higgins’ rapping and singing career blew up after the release of his hit songs “All Girls Are The Same” and “Lucid Dreams.” According to Billboard Magazine, these hits gained the attention of labels, landing him a three million dollar deal with Interscope Records.

His cause of death is speculated to be an overdose, but is still under investigation by the Chicago Police Department. However, it was no surprise to his fans that the drug issues he made apparent in his music may have played a key role in his decline of health. Junior Sophia Lynn said, “If it really was an overdose, it was clear in his music that he had an addiction. Sadly, it’s not shocking that such a harmful problem may have caught up to him.“ Others, however, were still surprised. Junior Deandre Vaz said, “I was shocked and I didn’t know how to react. He was one of my favorite artists and to wake up to reports of his death was really sad.”

According to the Chicago Tribune, sources say after a search of his private jet, authorities found 41 vacuum-sealed bags of marijuana, six bottles of prescription codeine cough syrup, two 9 mm pistols, a .40-caliber pistol, a high-capacity ammunition magazine and metal-piercing bullets. After landing at Midway Airport, Higgin’s luggage was searched when he suffered several convulsions and went into cardiac arrest. He was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at Advocate Christ Medical Center, Oak Lawn, Illinois.
