Disney is one of the biggest brands in the entertainment enterprise and is praised for having created some of the most iconic movies, shows, and stories of all time. With humble beginnings, Disney produced classic movies such as “Snow White,” “The Little Mermaid,” and “Peter Pan” in the mid 1900’s. Popularity quickly grew and Disneyland soon opened in 1955, becoming one of the biggest theme parks in America today. As the empire continues to expand, they have now released the long anticipated Disney+, which recently launched on November 12th, 2019.
Disney+ is a new streaming service with plenty of movies and TV shows for Disney lovers to choose from. Other companies including Marvel, National Geographic and some Pixar films are featured on the streaming service as well. Subscribers pay a monthly fee of $6.99, while a yearly subscription costs of $69.99. A seven-day free trial is also available.
According to CNBC, Disney+ was an immediate hit, racking up over ten million subscribers within the first day of international launch. These reported numbers dwarf those of big streaming services such as Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime TV. One of those ten million subscribers, Sophomore Isaiah Dickinson, said, “I enjoy watching the Mandalorian and National Geographic.” Mandalorian is the new hit series based off of the Star Wars saga. Another fan of the show, Sophomore Zeke Pearl, said, “I really like the Mandalorian, and Mulan is one of my favorite Disney movies.”
According to statisticians from Disney, Disney+ is estimated to have roughly 60-90 million subscribers by 2024, assuming that it does not make any expansions towards other companies.
