As the winter season unfolds in San Diego, there are many holiday activities to attend, from parades to tree lightings to holiday festivals.

One of the biggest annual events in San Diego is December Nights in Balboa Park. This year, December Nights will be on December 6th and 7th from 3pm-11pm. Those who have never been can expect lines of street food, beer and wine gardens, carnival rides, and unique holiday celebrations from all around the globe. Junior Croix Black said, “I am looking forward to going to December Nights with my family and eating a bunch of ethnic foods.”

Nothing brings more cheer than parades full of holiday floats and treats. December is packed with parades and almost every town in the county hosts one, including La Jolla, Encinitas, and Pacific Beach. La Jolla will be hosting the Annual Holiday Parade on Sunday, December 8th, which will include local Girl Scout and Boy Scout troops and lots of holiday candy to eat while watching the floats roll down Girard Avenue. On Saturday, December 7th, Encinitas will be parading their holiday spirit with marching bands, with tens of thousands estimated to attend, according to SanDiego.org. In the second week of December, the San Diegan holiday cheer moves to Pacific Beach. On Saturday, December 14th, one of the oldest holiday parades in San Diego County will roll down Garnet Avenue. All of these parades are free of charge to attend.

If one is not in the mood to leave the comfort of their house, there is still plenty to do at home. Junior Jack Evans said, “I am looking forward to my family coming into town, especially my grandparents. Something special that the Evan’s family has done every year is the annual Evan’s family gingerbread house baking competition. I am the three time winner. Soon to be four-time.” Making gingerbread houses is one of many household holiday activities one can enjoy with loved ones, along with decorating the house, cooking, and so much more.
