On November 24th, the American Music Awards took place in Los Angeles. The event drew various celebrities to witness the crowning of a new king or queen of the 2019 music industry. For those who were not able to watch it, the event featured a red carpet, performances of various genres, and awards for many talented musicians and artists.

The red carpet featured many celebrities serving looks for the camera. With her hit song, “Bad Guy” released earlier this year, it was no surprise that seventeen-year-old Billie Eilish would be walking the carpet. She chose to dress head to toe in Burberry fashion. Some other red carpet stunners included Billy Porter wearing an all-white fur cloak and a headdress made of swiss cheese, Lil Nas X in neon green zebra stripes, and Kesha in a Versace robe. Sophomore George Jarvis said, “I thought Lil Nas X looked really good. I really liked his neon suit.”

The main event had performances from many famous artists and awards for winners of each category. Billie Eilish won the award for Best New Artist, Post Malone won Best Rap Album with “Hollywood’s Bleeding,” and Khalid won Best Male Artist. As the ceremony drew to a close, the award most had been waiting for was announced. The nominees for Artist of the Year included Drake, Post Malone, Taylor Swift, Hasley, and Ariana Grande. Already winning four other awards that night, the crowd was not surprised to find out that Swift had won. Sophomore Shea McAuliffe said, “I think Taylor Swift deserved to win. She makes some really amazing music and puts in a lot of work.”
