Boys Football Season
November 5, 2019
For the La Jolla High School Football team, the 2019-2020 season has been filled with talented competition, hard fought losses, and exciting wins. The Vikings are sitting at a 4-4 record and are 2-0 against league opponents. The Vikings have had two very impressive league wins against Morse High School and Mira Mesa High School. Both teams made it to the CIF championships last year in the 2018-2019 season.
Two of La Jolla’s captains, Junior Max Smith, Runningback/Linebacker, and Junior Diego Solis, Wide Receiver/Quarterback, spoke on how their team is looking so far this season and talked about how they’ve been preparing heading into the Division III playoffs. “I think we’re prepared for the tougher teams we’ll be facing in the playoffs because we’re really coming together as a team and improving every week,” Smith said. “Our main goal coming into the season was to win CIF and the whole team knows we have the potential to make it that far,” Solis said.
Coming off a 3-7 record and missing the playoffs last year, the Vikings are hungrier than ever to get their first CIF championship since 1993. The boys started the season with a devastating loss against Bishops, a talented Division II opponent, but they have progressed as a team every week with impressive wins against respected teams.
