As of last year, Juul began to sell only fruity flavors of pods on their age-restricted website. On October 17th, Juul announced that they will no longer be selling certain flavors of pods to the public. This is due to the Trump administration demanding a change to stop the teen-vaping epidemic.

The public has many different opinions on this topic. Some believe that eliminating flavors will not make a difference in the vaping epidemic. Others believe that this act is a step in the right direction. Some even think that the distribution of Juuls should be banned altogether.

Senior Grace Carson states, “The reason underage kids vape is not because of the flavors and the media. Vape companies should not be putting the blame on it.” Like Carson, many people believe that the increase in vaping has nothing to do with the flavors. Instead, vaping has to do with the high concentration of the addictive chemical nicotine.

Some believe that vaping statistics will decrease if the sweeter flavored pods are eliminated. Senior Jenny Le explains, “Vaping will not completely end, but it will definitely be less popular. Also, I think that people would be less likely to start vaping without flavors that taste good.” Le believes that banning certain flavors will decrease chances of vaping. Additionally, the Trump administration believes that banning fruity and sweet flavored pods from Juul will help decrease the vaping epidemic.
