La Jolla is home to many “starving artists”, young and old, always looking for a chance to express their creative prowess. Ten years ago, La Jolla answered its call to action and the La Jolla Art and Wine Festival (LJAWF) was born. Now, according to the LJAWF website, it is “one of the most prestigious art and wine festivals in Southern California.” LJAWF is also a non-profit organization that is determined to providing funding for the art departments at La Jolla public schools.

This year from October 12th to October 13th, from 10 am to 6 pm, everyone is invited to the LJAWF. This includes wine enthusiasts, music fanatics, artists and pet lovers are more than welcome to come and enjoy this year’s free festival. LJAWF showcases over 150 artists from all around the United States and Mexico, but they also show local artists as well, including La Jolla High School Junior Kit Larsen. Since LJAWF helps out schools like La Jolla High, Larsen comments, “I appreciate the fundraising and I enjoy the opportunity to express my creativity.” Some artists like Senior Hannah Jimenez just likes to “look around at all the amazing art.” Jimenez supports her family members who do participate in the showing and hope to “walk in their footsteps one day.” Besides paintings, you can also find sculpting, jewelry, glass blowing, ceramics, wood sculpting, and photography. Girard Avenue will be the center of attention from 10 am to 6 pm on the weekend of the 12th.
