After an amazing season, the La Jolla Rugby team is coming off a SoCal Championship win, and looking forward to the upcoming season. The team is losing quite a few seniors in the back positions, but the forward positions will have plenty of returning starters, including Aiden Trudeau (Junior), Max Smith (Junior), Dirk Germon (Junior), and Jack Weise (Senior). The team is looking good according to the Varsity Head Coach, Bill Lavarse, other known as Coach Chief. “The challenge is going to be in the backline,” says Coach Chief. According to Smith, they have a few new players lined up for this years team. “We have a few new players from other schools that don’t have rugby programs and some new upper and lower classmen looking into the program from our school.” To have a successful season, Smith said, “New players always help the team because there aren’t a lot of kids playing to begin with. So, anybody who plays will help the team significantly.” After talking with Dirk Germon about the upcoming rugby season, he is excited about the season. “I can’t wait to start the rugby season and as a team we all have the goal of being back to back to back champions,” said Germon.
